If you work near downtown Glendale, or you simply like a good weekday lunch, our Persian grill lunch special is one of the best deals on our menu. It’s served Monday through Friday from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM (not on holidays), and it comes with bread, butter, and your choice of salad or the soup of the day. For takeout, the choice is salad only. Extra charge applies if you’d like a different rice.
The list of options is long, so here are four smart ways I’d order, depending on what kind of lunch you want.
1. Go Classic With Koobideh
When in doubt, order the Koobideh. It’s a skewer of ground beef and onions, broiled to perfection, and it’s the dish most regulars come back for. It’s quick, filling, and about as dependable as lunch gets. Pair it with a Shirazi salad if you’d like something cool and fresh alongside the grilled meat. Our koobideh is halal.
2. Try the Half-Order Stew
If you’d like something slow-cooked instead of grilled, the lunch special lets you choose a half order of stew. Your options are Ghormeh Sabzi, Fesenjan, Gheymeh Bademjan, or Khoresh Bademjan. It’s a great way to try one of our house stews at a lunch-sized portion, and it’s a nice change from the usual sandwich-and-salad routine.
3. Pick a Lighter Skewer
For a lighter lunch that won’t slow down your afternoon, a half skewer of Chicken Barg is a good choice. It’s sliced chicken breast, marinated, skewered, and broiled, and it comes with broiled tomato, grilled vegetables, and basmati rice. There’s also a Chicken Kabob (three-quarter skewer) and a Chicken Koobideh, made with ground chicken, if you prefer those.
4. Treat Yourself to Lamb or Filet
Some days call for something a little more special. The lunch menu includes a Bareh Kabob, a three-quarter skewer of boneless lamb ribeye, as well as a Shish Kabob of filet mignon chunks. There’s even a Joojeh Kabob, a 24 oz Cornish hen, for the hungriest guests. Our lamb dishes are halal.
A Few Practical Tips
If you’re dining in, ask your server what the soup of the day is. We have rotating daily soups, and many guests choose them over the salad on cooler days. If you’d like a half portion of a daily special or fresh fish, ask your server, since those change from day to day.
Lunch tends to move quickly, which is exactly how a good weekday lunch should work. You can see the full list of options on our menu page, and our Persian grill page tells you more about what we cook. If you’d like to settle in for something longer, our Persian restaurant page covers dinner and group dining.
We welcome lunch guests from City Center and Brand Park who stop in on their break, and who often come back the next week. For a bit of background on the cuisine itself, Britannica’s overview of Persian cuisine is a nice read, and you can learn more about our neighborhood on our Glendale page.
