Persian flavors don’t stop when the last kabob leaves the table. Some of my favorite moments in the dining room happen right at the end of a meal, when someone leans back, orders something sweet, and realizes how different Persian desserts are from what they expected. They’re fragrant, floral, and light, and they pair beautifully with a hot glass of tea. Here are four sweet endings from our menu.
1. Persian Ice Cream
This is the easiest place to begin. Our Persian ice cream is vanilla ice cream flavored with rose water and saffron, and it tastes like a quiet, perfumed version of a classic. If rose water is new to you, this is a gentle introduction. The saffron adds a soft golden warmth that makes each spoonful feel special.
2. Faloudeh
Faloudeh is one of the most unusual desserts on our menu, and guests are often curious about it. It’s described on our menu as Persian icy noodles flavored with rose water, which gives you a good idea of the idea behind it: cold, refreshing, and delicate. It’s a lovely finish after a warm, grilled meal, especially on a mild evening.
3. Baghlava
Crushed walnuts, almonds, and pistachios, layered and finished with honey. We call it a Persian favorite on our menu, and I think the description says it all. It’s rich and nutty, sweet without being heavy, and it’s the one I’d suggest if you want something to share across the table.
4. Zoolbia and Bamieh
These are Persian pastries, often enjoyed together, and they’re classic sweets that many Persian families associate with celebrations and special occasions. Their flavor is syrupy and sweet, so a small plate goes a long way. Availability can vary, so ask your server when you’re ready to order dessert.
Don’t Forget the Tea
A sweet course feels more complete with a glass of Persian hot tea beside it. Tea is a central part of how Persian meals close, giving everyone a reason to stay a little longer and keep talking. It’s also a nice contrast to the sweetness of the desserts, which helps each bite taste fresh. If you’d like to read more about the traditions behind these flavors, this history of Persian food is a good place to start.
Building the Perfect Ending
If you’re unsure where to start, I suggest sharing one dessert between two or three people and adding tea for the table. That way you get to taste without feeling full. Guests from Montrose and La Crescenta sometimes tell me the dessert is what they remember most about their visit, and I understand why.
